GTS Rant
With the releases of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, and new frontier was made available to all Pokémon fans in the world. For the first time in the Pokémon series, you could trade, and battle online. The idea in my opinion was pure genius. Pokémon fans everywhere now had the option to battle with their friends online, and have the ability to trade with their friends, or just other like minded Pokémon fans. They could see how they fared in battle, by comparing their Battle Tower results with those of others across the globe. At last, the prayers of Pokémon fans world wide had been answered. However, not everything about the venture into cyberspace has a positive hype about it. There are many people who are using the GTS incorrectly, and ruining the experience for others. If you were to look around the GTS, you’d notice the abundance of completely outlandish trade offers there. Once, I was searching for starter Pokémon so I could complete my PokéDex. However, all I could seem to find were starter Pokémon on Level 1, all of which demanded some sort of legendary Pokémon in return. Because so many people are using the GTS as a Trophy Case, rather than a Global Trade Station (Which the acronym, GTS stands for) many people have given up looking for Pokémon to fill up their PokéDex. Another common thing you’ll see on the GTS is Pokémon up for impossible trades. Which technically aren’t impossible, unless you have an Action Reply or Game Shark handy. Trades like a Level 78 Shiny Palkia for a Level 1 Mesprit. Trades like that which are impossible to be fulfilled by the average gamer without a cheating device. All, of which just waste time to those who are actually looking for a trade. At the current point in time, there’s nothing we can do about this issue. All we can do is plead and whine on Pokémon forums to try and stop these people. However, the only reasonable and effective way to deal with this issue is to wait and put up with these people, and hope that in the next instalment of the Pokémon series, that Nintendo integrates a filter system, which filters out impossible trades. However, I can’t seem to think of any reasonable way to prevent outlandish trade offers. It looks like we’re going to have to just deal with it. |
