.:. Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal .:.

After the success of the first generation, Nintendo released the second generation: Gold and Silver. They were immensely successful, bringing into the field full colour, 100 new Pokemon, an entire new region, the “Radio” and apricorns.

Unlike the original games, both Gold and Silver had their own "main" Legendary, Ho-oh and Lugia respectively. While both were obtainable in either game, in Gold you got a Lvl. 40 Ho-oh with Sacred Fire and in Silver you got a Lvl. 40 Lugia with Aeroblast. The apricorns were things aquired from many different places that, when given to a certain person, would be turned into a range of different Pokeballs, depending on which colour you used. Gold and Silver also introduced two new types: Steel and Dark. Yet another feature: once all the gyms and Elite four of Johto were beaten, you could proceed to the Kanto region (the setting of the first generation), where you would begin the process of defeating all the gyms and other such curiosities there.

This series is commonly viewed as the best of all; people are holding out for a remake of the series.

Two years afterwards, Nintendo released the sequel: Pokemon Crystal. It featured a new plot: hunting down the legendar dog, Suicune. While Suicune and it's partners (Entei and Raikou) were in Gold and Silver, Crystal involves Suicune far more. There's some crazed guy trying to hunt down Suicune, it seems, and he constantly challenges you to battles to impress the beast. Crystal was also the first Pokemon game in which you could choose to be either a boy or a girl,a feature many people loved.
